aspartate aminotransferase (AST) test

aspartate aminotransferase (AST) test, a blood test used in the evaluation of suspected coronary occlusive heart disease or hepatocellular diseases. AST is one of several enzymes tested in the cardiac enzyme series to help diagnose myocardial infarction. Formerly called serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase.
