anhydrase

anhydrase /anhī″drās/ [Gk, a, not + hydor, water] , an enzyme that catalyzes the elimination of water molecules from certain compounds, as carbonic anhydrase dehydrates carbonic acid, thereby controlling the amount of carbon dioxide in the blood and lungs.
