angioplasty

angioplasty /an″jēōplas′tē/ [Gk, angeion, vessel, plassein, to mold] , the opening and restoration of blood vessels damaged by disease or injury, often performed by inflating a balloon within the vessel lumen at the site of narrowing to reconstitute flow. See also balloon angioplasty.
