amyloid

amyloid /am″iloid/ [Gk, amylon, starch, eidos, form] , 1. insoluble protein aggregates pertaining to or resembling starch. 2. a starchlike protein-carbohydrate complex deposited abnormally in some tissues during certain chronic disease states, such as amyloidosis, rheumatoid arthritis, tuberculosis, and Alzheimer’s disease.
