ammonia (NH3) /amō″nē·a// [Gk, ammoniakos, salt of Ammon, Egyptian god] , a colorless pungent gas produced by the decomposition of nitrogenous organic matter. Some of its many uses are as a fertilizer, an aromatic stimulant, a detergent, and an emulsifier.
