agenesia corticalis /ā′jenē″zhə/ [Gk, a + genein, not to produce; L, cortex] , the failure of the cortical cells of the brain, especially the pyramidal cells, to develop in the embryo, resulting in infantile cerebral paralysis and severe cognitive impairment.
