acrocentric /ak′rōsen″trik/ [Gk, akron, extremity, kentron, center] , pertaining to a chromosome in which the centromere is located near one of the ends so that the arms of the chromosome are extremely uneven in length. Compare metacentric, submetacentric, telocentric.
