absorbed dose

absorbed dose, the energy imparted by ionizing radiation per unit mass of irradiated material at the place of interest. The SI unit of absorbed dose is the gray (Gy); the non-SI (traditional) unit is referred to as rad, radiation absorbed dose. 1 Gy equals 1 J/kg; and 1 Gy equals 100 rad.
