cosyntropin /kō’sintrop″in/ , a synthetic form of adrenocorticotropic hormone that is used in the diagnosis and treatment of adrenal hypofunction disorders such as Addison’s disease to determine if the disorder is primary (adrenal dysfunction) or secondary (hypothalamic-pituitary axis dysfunction).
