constitutive resistance

constitutive resistance /kənstich″o̅o̅tiv/ , the bacterial resistance to antibiotics that is contained in the deoxyribonucleic acid molecules of the organism. The trait can be passed on to daughter cells through cell division, but it cannot be transmitted to other species of bacteria.
