composite core /kəmpos″it/ [L, componere, to assemble] , a buildup of composite resin designed and placed in the pulp chamber and root canal of an endodontically treated tooth to allow the tooth to be used as a foundation for a crown or bridge. Compare amalgam core, cast core. See also core.
