collagenous fiber /kəlaj″ənəs/ , any one of the tough, white protein fibers that constitute much of the intercellular substance and the connective tissue of the body. Collagenous fibers contain collagen. They are often arranged in bundles that strengthen the tissues in which they are embedded.
