chondrodystrophy

chondrodystrophy /kon′drōdis″trəfē/ [Gk, chondros + dys, bad, trophe, nourishment] , a group of disorders in which there is abnormal conversion of cartilage to bone, particularly in the epiphyses of the long bones. Patients are dwarfed, with normal trunks and shortened extremities. See also achondroplasia.
