chalazion

chalazion /kəlā″zion/ [Gk, hailstone] , a small, nonmalignant, localized swelling of the eyelid resulting from obstruction and retained secretions of the meibomian glands. Treatment can include warm wet compresses, but the condition often requires surgery for correction. Compare hordeolum, sty.
