cardiac impulse [Gk, kardia + L, impellere, to set in motion] , 1. the mechanical movement of the thorax caused by the beating of the heart. It is readily palpable and easily recorded. See also point of maximum impulse. 2. the electrical stimulus generated by the heart for pacing purposes.
