carbol-fuchsin stain

carbol-fuchsin stain [L, carbo, coal; Leonard Fuchs] , a solution of dilute phenol and basic fuchsin used on microorganisms and cell nuclei for microscopic examination. Also called Ziehl’s stain. See also acid-fast stain, Kinyoun stain.
