breast abscess

breast abscess, a true abscess following unresolved postpartum breast infection (mastitis). Treatment is surgical drainage of the abscess and antibiotic therapy, the most common pathogens being Staphylococcus aureus, group A or B streptococcus, Beta haemophilus, and Escherichia coli.
