basal bone, 1. (in prosthodontics) the osseous tissue of the mandible and the maxilla, except for the rami and the processes, which provides support for artificial dentures. 2. (in orthodontics) the fixed osseous structure that limits the movement of teeth in the creation of a stable occlusion.
