zonula adherens

zonula adherens [L, zone, belt, adhaerere, to stick] , a continuous zone running around the outer surface of a cell in which there is an intercellular space of about 15 to 20 nm width. A component of the junctional complex between cells, the zone contains dense filamentous material.
