wet-to-dry dressing

wet-to-dry dressing, a wet dressing that is allowed to dry and then is removed. It was once thought that in removal the wound would be lightly debrided. It is now known that wet-to-dry dressings allow the wound base to dry and that healing cells are removed when the dressing is removed.
