baralyme /ber″əlīm/ [Gk, barys, heavy; AS, lim, lime] , a mixture of calcium and barium compounds used to absorb exhaled carbon dioxide in an anesthesia rebreathing system, a process that reduces the need for large amounts of fresh gas. See also soda lime.
