triplet

triplet /trip″lit/ [L, triplus] , 1. any one of three offspring born of the same gestation period during a single pregnancy. See also Hellin’s law. 2. (in genetics) the unit of three consecutive bases in one polynucleotide chain of DNA or RNA that codes for a specific amino acid. See also codon, genetic code.
