thyroxine (T4)

thyroxine (T4) /thīrok′sēn/ , a hormone of the thyroid gland, derived from tyrosine and deiodinated in the periphery to T3 (triiodothyronine). Thyroxine stimulates metabolic rate. Also called tetraiodothyronine.
