thioester

thioester /thī′ō·es″tər/ , an important group of biological chemicals formed by the hydrosulfides (or mercaptans or thiols) and carboxylic acids and identified by a bond between the acyl carbonyl carbon and the thiol sulfur. Examples include the coenzyme A thioesters.
