tangentiality /tanjen′chē·al″itē/ [L, tangere, to touch] , expressions or responses characterized by a tendency to digress from an original topic of conversation, in which a common word connects two unrelated thoughts. It is common in schizophrenia and delirium. Compare loose associations.
