somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) /-sen″sərē/ [Gk, soma + L, sentire, to feel] , evoked potential elicited by repeated stimulation of the pain and touch systems. It is the least reliable of the evoked potentials studied as monitors of neurological function during surgery.
