simian virus 40 (SV40)

simian virus 40 (SV40), a vacuolating virus isolated from the kidney tissue of rhesus monkeys. SV40 may play a role in the development of malignancies. Exposure to the virus is associated with contaminated polio vaccines administered in the 1960s.
