short-wave diathermy [AS, sceort + wafian + Gk, dia + therme, heat] , a method of providing heat deep in the body by short-wave electric currents. The high-frequency short-wave uses wavelengths of 3 to 30 meters. It is used to treat chronic arthritis, bursitis, sinusitis, and other conditions.
