scimitar syndrome

scimitar syndrome, a radiographic artifact caused by a congenital disorder in which the right lower pulmonary vein drains into the inferior vena cava. On a chest radiograph, the abnormal vessel configuration produces a scimitar-shaped shadow. Also called pulmonary venolobar syndrome.
