preagonal ascites

preagonal ascites /prē·ag″ənəl/ [L, prae, before; Gk, agon, struggle, askos, bag] , a rapid accumulation of fluid within the peritoneal cavity, representing the transudation of serum from the circulatory system. Preagonal ascites immediately precedes death in some cases. See also ascites.
