povidone

povidone /pō″vidōn/ , a polymerized form of vinylpyrrolidone, a white hygroscopic powder readily soluble in water, used as a dispersing and suspending agent in drugs. It also has been used as a blood volume extender and, in a complex with iodine, as a topical antiseptic.
