postcaval shunt

postcaval shunt /-kā′vəl/ [L, post, after, vena cava + ME, shunten] , any of several surgical anastomoses of the portal and systemic circulations to relieve symptoms of portal hypertension. Also called portacaval shunt, portal venous shunt.
