phytohemagglutinin test

phytohemagglutinin test, a test to identify genetic carriers of cystic fibrosis, performed by exposing white blood cells to phytohemagglutinin. A normal reaction involves a noticeable increase in cell protein. Molecular genetic markers are now available for the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis.
