peritonitis meconium

peritonitis meconium [Gk, peri + teinein, to stretch, itis, inflammation, mekon, poppy] , a condition of peritonitis in a newborn resulting from rupture of the digestive tract. The inflammation is caused by leakage of meconium, or fecal contents, into the peritoneal cavity.
