pepsinogen

pepsinogen /pəpsin″əjən/ [Gk, pepsis + genein, to produce] , a zymogenic substance secreted by pyloric and gastric chief cells. It is converted to the enzyme pepsin in an acidic environment, as in the presence of hydrochloric acid produced in the stomach.
