paravaccinia virus

paravaccinia virus /-vaksin″ē·ə/ , a member of a subgroup of poxviruses that can infect humans through direct contact with infected livestock. It is related to the smallpox virus and is the cause of pseudocowpox, which produces milker’s nodules. See also milker’s nodule.
