palatopharyngoplasty

palatopharyngoplasty /-fering″gōplas′tē/ , the surgical excision of palatal and oropharyngeal tissues. The procedure may be performed to treat cases of snoring or sleep apnea thought to be caused by obstructions in the nose or pharynx. Also called uvulopalatopharyngoplasty.
