overclosure /-klō″zhər/ [AS, ofer + L, claudere, to close] , an abnormal condition in which the mandible rises beyond the point of normal occlusal contact, caused by drifting of teeth, loss of occlusal vertical dimension, change in tooth shapes through grinding, or loss of teeth.
