odontitis

odontitis /ō′dontī″tis/ [Gk, odous + itis, inflammation] , abnormal enlargement of a tooth pulp, usually resulting from inflammation of the odontoblasts (cells responsible for dentin formation) rather than of the mature, or erupted, tooth. It may be caused by infection, tumor, or trauma.
