nutritional anemia [L, nutrire, to nourish; Gk, a + haima, without blood] , a disorder characterized by the inadequate production of hemoglobin or erythrocytes caused by a nutritional deficiency of iron, folic acid, or vitamin B12. See also iron-deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia, pernicious anemia.
