negative electrode

negative electrode [L, negare, to deny; Gk, elektron, amber, hodos, way] , an anode, or the negative terminal of a battery or dry cell at which oxidation takes place. It is also the cathode or negative terminal in an electrolytic cell at which reduction takes place.
