narcotic poisoning

narcotic poisoning [Gk, narkotikos, be numbing; L, potio, drink] , the toxic effects of a narcotic drug that depresses the brain centers, causing unconsciousness or coma. Narcotic drugs are generally derived from opium, but other drugs, including alcohol, can produce similar effects.
