anterior longitudinal ligament

anterior longitudinal ligament, the broad, strong ligament attached to the ventral surfaces of the vertebral bodies. It extends from the occipital bone and the anterior tubercle of the atlas to the sacrum. Also called anterior common ligament. Compare posterior longitudinal ligament.
