Lugol’s solution

Lugol’s solution [Jean G.A. Lugol, French physician, 1786–1851; L, solutus, unbound] , an aqueous solution of iodine (5%) and potassium iodide (10%) that paradoxically suppresses thyroid function, used in preparation for thyroidectomy and during treatment of thyrotoxic crisis.
