latency period

latency period /lā″tənsē/ [L, latere, to be concealed; Gk, peri + hodos, way] , 1. the period between contact with a pathogen and development of symptoms. Also called incubation period. 2. the time between stimulus and response. 3. a stage of psychosocial development. See latency stage.
