laser

laser /lā″zər/ , a source of intense monochromatic radiation of the visible, ultraviolet, or infrared portions of the spectrum. Lasers are used in surgery to divide or cause adhesions or to destroy or fix tissue in place. Abbreviation for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. Also called optic laser, optic maser.
