keratohyalin /-hī″əlin/ [Gk, keras + hyalos, glass] , a substance in the granules found in keratinocytes of the epidermis. The keratohyalin granule develops within and around the fibrillar protein, contributing in an unknown manner to the functional maturity of keratin.
