internal strangulation

internal strangulation [L, internus, inward, strangulare, to choke] , a state of extreme constriction of an organ, such as a loop of intestine trapped in an opening, resulting in an interruption in the blood supply and ischemia. See also inguinal hernia, intestinal strangulation.
