inspiratory dyspnea [L, inspirare, to breathe in; Gk, dys, without, pnoia, breath] , a form of breathing difficulty caused by an obstruction in the larynx, trachea, or bronchi. The patient attempts to compensate for this deficiency with prolonged, deep inspirations.
