inlay /in′lā/ [L, in, within; AS, lecan, lay] , 1. material, such as bone or skin, inserted into a tissue defect. 2. (in dentistry) a restoration made outside of a tooth to correspond with the form of a prepared cavity and then cemented into the tooth.
